Kartenforum — Map Forum

The Kartenforum is an information portal of libraries, museums and archives maintained by the Deutsche Fotothek and funded by the DFG. Currently, around 30,000 of the most important, high-resolution digitalized cartographic sources - in particular on the history of Saxony - are offered from the collections of the participating partners.

Within the scope of the DFG project "Digitisation and indexing of historical maps and vedutas of the SLUB Dresden and other institutions" (2009-2011), around 6,000 so called Messtischblätter were made available on a scale of 1:25,000 and the map of the Deutsches Reich on a scale of 1:100,000 as a comprehensive cartographic basis for scientific use in all disciplines.

In addition to this service, the Virtuelles Kartenforum 2.0 offers retrieval in over 9,000 georeferenced maps. A new feature is the display of historical maps in a 3D representation. Since 2018, the first topographic survey of Saxony from 1780-1806 is completely georeferenced on a scale of 1:12,000.
