Three issues per volume/year are distributed to NZPsS Members and subscribers in NZ and internationally. Content may include manuscripts in any substantive area of psychology, and book reviews.
Submitted manuscripts may be,

- empirical,
- reviews of the literature, or
- discussions of theoretical/conceptual frameworks of relevance to the practice of psychology.

 

Manuscripts will be considered for publication if (a) they include data collected from New Zealand samples, or (b) they discuss the relevance of issues contained in the manuscript to the New Zealand social and cultural context, or to the practice of psychology  in this country.

Author Guidelines

Authors are assumed to be familiar with and are responsible for adherence to the Code of Ethics For Psychologists Working in Aotearoa New Zealand and in doing so are prohibited from submitting a manuscript which is being considered by another publication or from publishing any manuscript that has already been published in whole or substantial part elsewhere. Authors are obligated to consult the Editor concerning prior publication of any material upon which their article depends. Although the Journal does publish review and discussion articles, most papers will present research or drawing extensively on research data. Quantitative and qualitative research is reviewed and published by the Journal. Compliance with ethical standards in the treatment and protection of the research participants as elaborated in the  Code of Ethics For Psychologists Working in Aotearoa New Zealand is expected by the Journal.

Relevance to New Zealand

Manuscripts will only be considered for publication if (a) they include data collected from New Zealand samples, or (b) they discuss the relevance of issues contained in the manuscript to the New Zealand social and cultural context, or (c) they discuss the practice of psychology in New Zealand.
All published manuscripts must include a consideration of the applicability of the content to New Zealand’s indigenous Māori population.

Manuscript Format

Manuscripts are to be prepared in accordance with the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (7th ed.).

  • All copy must be double-spaced and instructions for preparing tables, figures, references, metrics, and abstracts appear in the manual.
  •  Manuscripts of regular articles are to be accompanied by an abstract containing a maximum of 960 characters and spaces (which is approximately 120 words), followed by three to six key words.
  • Abstracts, tables, and figures should be typed on separate pages, and manuscript pages for any tables or figures should be placed at the end of the manuscript for production purposes.
  • Manuscripts are to contain a maximum of 7,000 words excluding references.

The title page should contain the names and affiliations of all authors, as well as the corresponding author’s name, address, phone, fax, and e-mail details for use by the editorial office.
All submissions considered suitable for the Journal are subjected to double blind review. Manuscripts will be returned to the author(s) in cases where it has not been prepared in such a way that blind reviewing is possible.
